Summary:This descriptive exploratory study,qualitative approach, objectified to investigateundergraduates, attending the seventh semester of theNursing course in a public university, and their perceptionon their skills to recognize and deliver care to abusedchildren and teenagers. Data collection was effected bymeans of a semi-structured, recorded and transcribedinterview. It complied with Resolution 196/96 on researchwith human beings. Content analysis was adopted for thetechnical exam. Half of the twenty respondents reportedunprepared to identify abuse situations, but they recognizedNursing Consultation as a diagnostic way and describednegligence as abuse. They report their action taking but donot realize the need for case follow-up which makes hardtheevaluationoftheiractioneffectiveness.Theyrecommendchild and family’s psychological treatment to disrupt theabuse cycle and family/ school integration as an option toaddress the problem.
