Limited by the non-orthogonality between subcarriers, OVFDM systems usually use MLSD (Maximum Likelihood Sequence Detection) algorithm for decoding, which brings high computational complexity and thus limits the applying of OVFDM system in engineering. In this paper, a ZP (Zero-padding) - OVFDM architecture is proposed and the architecture can benefit from frequency diversity. Meanwhile, compared with the MLSD algorithm, the proposed MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) -based Viterbi decoding algorithm has better performance and requires much less computation by evaluating the likelihood of each detection and discarding the least possible ones based on the MAP criterion. The numerical results show that OVFDM can provide superior performance over OFDM on frequency selective fading channels.
