<p>Abstract</p> <p>Sharp bounds for <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i1.gif"/></inline-formula> are derived for certain classes <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i2.gif"/></inline-formula> and <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i3.gif"/></inline-formula> of meromorphic functions <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i4.gif"/></inline-formula> defined on the punctured open unit disk for which <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i5.gif"/></inline-formula> and <inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i6.gif"/></inline-formula><inline-formula> <graphic file="1029-242X-2008-931981-i7.gif"/></inline-formula>, respectively, lie in a region starlike with respect to 1 and symmetric with respect to the real axis. Also, certain applications of the main results for a class of functions defined through Ruscheweyh derivatives are obtained.</p>
