Since its construction, major rehabilitation projects have been done. A report by (Modjeski and Masters 2013) revealed severe corrosion and wire cracks inside the main cables and evaluated the condition of the main cables as poor. This report caused the Ohio Department of Transportation to consider installation of a dehumidification system on the bridge cables.Analatom AN110 µLPR corrosion sensors were utilized to study the effectiveness of such a system on Anthony Wayne Bridge application. In this research, an extensive background of Anthony Wayne Bridge’s rehabilitation process was reviewed. A literature review of dehumidification systems and application of corrosion sensors is also included. For laboratory test, a box chamber was created to simulate the same condition of the main cables. Linear polarization resistance (LPR) technology, used in AN110 µLPR sensors, monitored and measured the corrosion rate in real time. Different tests setup to expose the sensors to relative humidity and observe the relationship between corrosion rate and relative humidity. Post processing data acquisition system (DAQ) was utilized to ensure the effectiveness of the drying out process. The data provided by DAQ verified the clear and consistent relationship between relative humidity and corrosion rate and, also, confirmed the efficiency of the application of a dehumidification system. Finally, recommendations on the application of the dehumidification system on Anthony Wayne Bridge is provided. 2018-12-14 English text University of Toledo / OhioLINK http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo152524848505022 http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=toledo152524848505022 unrestricted This thesis or dissertation is protected by copyright: some rights reserved.
