Among various UPC schemes, the Leaky Bucket algorithm has been proposed as a policer in the rate-based management of bandwidth in ATM network and it has been discussed extensively based on its characteristics and effectiveness. In this thesis, we present an enhanced version of Leaky Bucket, we call it Enhanced Leaky Bucket (ELB), to monitor traffic. In addition to the factors of mean rate, peak rate, cell delay variation (CDV) is also taken into consideration for each ELB. Then, we study the characteristics of the multiplexer with sufficient buffer in which cell arrivals are policed by an Enhanced Leaky-Bucket (ELB) before entering the system based on the criteria of waiting time in the multiplexer buffer. Based on the two special kinds of token-generation condition, "conicident environment" and "perfectly interleaving environment" under the homogeneous environment, we derive the bounds of maximum waiting time and maximum average waiting time for cells endured in the multiplexer buffer expressed as the function of the ELB parameters and the number of sources. Then, according to this worst case analysis, we discuss the relation between the waiting time and ELB parameters. From the discussion, we discuss the problem of setting the parameters of Enhanced Leaky-Bucket and the effect of token-generation environment based on the queueing behavior of multiplexing ELB enforced sources by simulation. 吳中實 1996 學位論文 ; thesis 71 zh-TW
