Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 公共衛生研究所 === 85 === National Taiwan University Hospital Department of Internal
Medicine has established a Chin-Shan Community
cardiovascular Cohort Study 。Data of baseline peripheral
blood components measurements were available for the 3602
participants in this cohort。This study was to investigate the
hematopoietic effects of very low-level radiation among
residents living in Chin-Shan community near two nuclear power
plants。 We are interested in
measuring relationships between blood components and the
radiation exposure estimated using transformed distance between
the plantsand individual's residence。Other factors gender、age
、smoking and drinking were also investigated as cofactors for
this study。
Fast blood specimens were analyzed for components including
blood cell counts, lipids and other chemicals。Relationship
between these hematology measurements and radiation exposure
was calculated using Pearson(s correlationcoefficient。The
surrogate radiation exposure was estimated with a
transformeddistance from each individual(s residence to the
location of the two nuclear power plants, H1 and H2 by
1/H1*2+1/H2*2。After controlling for age 、 gender 、 smoking
and drink, significant negative correlaons with the radiation
exposure were found for hemoglobin(Hgb), hematocrit(HCT),
platelet, white blood cell , red blood cell, and
triglyceride , cholesteal and low density lipoprotein 。These
inverse associations implied that those who lived closer to the
nuclear power installation had a higher blood cell counts and
the elevated of lipids levels。
It is unclear if these associations are due to hormetic effect
。 However, the health significance needs further investigation
。
