Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹師範學院 === 國民教育研究所 === 86 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation and the effectiveness of the adoption-guidance program mandated by the Ministry of Education at Four junior high schools in Hsinchu, taiwan,R.O.C.The researcher interviewed 16 interviewees at four schools with different status, namely, principals, the directors of the guidance centers, teachers as counselors and dropout students at 4 schools respectively. The main findings are as follow: 1.All of the four interviewed schools carried out the adoption-guidance programs in such a way that were demanded by the ministry of Education. They encouraged and arranged four dyads of teachers and students to participate in the program. Since most of the four teachers were paraprofessional counselors, they failed to perform their counselor roles professionally. 2.All the teachers as counselors in this program worked very hard to fulfill their roles and duties, they had interviews withthe dropouts now and then, they arranged home-visits as filled out seve ral forms required by the officials. In spite of those teachers particpation at various case conferencesand reviewing some related books or joural articles to enhance their professional competence, most teachers as counselors often felt insufficient while counseling their students. 3.Some dropouts had positive comments about the program, those who were supported by their parents, peers and teachers made more progress. The factors which affected the effectiveness of the adoption- guidance program included the resisance of those dropouts, the heavy duty also the lac king of the professional knowledge and skills required by those teachers , the ignorance and inattentiveness of dropouts parents. Moreover, the in fluence of peer group plays an important role in helping those dropouts . 4.The adoption-guidance teachers felt inadequate and asked more help from counseling supervisors when performing their roles. Further implication andrecommendations about the adoption -guidance program were discussed.
