They also play a major role in tissue repair and regeneration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expressions of BMPs protein and mRNA in acute and chronic liver injury. We used CCl4 to induce acute liver damage and chronic liver cirrhosis in rats. The expression of BMP-2,4,6 and 7 was studied by immunohistochemistry, and RT-PCR method. The results of acute injury group showed that BMP-2,4,6 and 7 proteins presented in the normal hepatocytes and Kupffer's cells, which was around the damaged hepatocytes with fatty degeneration. In the group of chronic liver cirrhosis, BMP-2,6,7 proteins presented in the regenerated liver nodules, and BMP-4 protein in the interstitial fiber cells. RT-PCR studies revealed that it was of more significant expression of BMP-6 mRNA in normal group than that in chronic cirrhosis group, and no significant difference of BMP-2,7 mRNA expression between normal and cirrhotic groups. Expression of BMP-4 mRNA was not shown in both groups. It was concluded that CCl4 can induce BMPs expression in damaged tissue directly or indirectly. BMP-2,4,6,7 might augmente the inflammatory reaction in early liver injury induced by CCl4. In chronic phase, BMP-2,6,7 might regulate the function of hepatocyte regeneration, whereas BMP-4 might regulate the fibrosis in cirrhotic liver. The disproportion of mRNA and protein expression of BMP-2,7 might be due to some factors to be activated to translation in the chronic inflammatory process. It will need further studies to assure this phenomenon. 許朝添 張文正 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 65 zh-TW
