Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 土木工程學系 === 89 === A good information classification system is of great advantage to management, and coding is critical to the information system. However, till now there is no any standard coding for engineering work. MasterFormat is widely accepted as a construction information coding system, but not applicable to engineering work. Although engineering design costs little compared with construction expenditures, it has a high level influence on construction project performance. The purpose of this paper is to present an engineering information classification system (EICS) for engineering work. The EICS is made of faceted and hierarchical coding structure, which consists of construction type, product or service, support or task, and man-hour. EICS contains six digits; the first three digits denote work content, and the second three are technical digits. Work content represents engineering life cycle and support, product, or service; technical digits include function and task. All digits use decimal numbers except the function digit in a letter of alphabet. After accomplishing EICS, we input actual man-hours of a project into EICS, and extracted valuable information. The case company’s individual departments were also requested to write codes based on EICS. The test shows a 75% correct ratio. These two results prove the feasibility of EICS.
