On the contrary, if we could understand how children played their roles in Sung Dynasty, we would have realized why painting kids were fad during the era. I started Chapter 1 by describing Sung Dynasty’s society and how the government thought highly of children’s welfare. I also depict the development of Painting of Children at Play roughly. Chapter 2 researches why portraying offspring was popular during Sung Dynasty by investigating the period’s social condition and artistic trend, these were the possible factors which caused the artist to make Painting of Children at Play. Chapter 3 focuses on children’s life in Sung Dynasty. Children’s social institution, rituals, and ceremony are the main issues in this paragraph. Presuming the reasons why Painting of Children at Play was adored in this era, I survey the historical evidences, try to conceive how children played their roles in ancient Chinese society. In Chapter 4, Sung Dynasty’s kids games are represented, such as producing toys, picking fruits, playing with birds and insects, fishing and other common games during the time. Sung Dynasty’s literatures provided plentiful references for my study. The artist from Sung Dynasty(960-1279 A. D.), Su Han-ch’en is famous for his lively illustration of youngsters, I attempt to define Sung Dynasty children’s life by interpreting his masterpiece Painting of Children at Play. On the contrary, if we could understand how children played their roles in Sung Dynasty, we would have realized why painting kids were fad during the era.
I started Chapter 1 by describing Sung Dynasty’s society and how the government thought highly of children’s welfare. I also depict the development of Painting of Children at Play roughly.
