碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 應用媒體藝術研究所 === 92 === Abstract
The development of domestic television industry has appeared to be prosperous and been highly competitive after government’s releasing the cable television system to enter into market; and especially for television news, the broadcasting of whole day news of cable television has made the so-called ‘old three TV stations’ change their management styles. In addition, many TV news channels entering into market have induced college and university graduates to join the news market as their first priority choice. However, the more the news channels, the higher of the rate of job changing. It is more apparent in cable TV systems from the observation of news reporters and presenters’ youthnization. The higher rate of job changing makes people think whether it is a long term type of job for the news reporters and presenters.
This research aims at understanding TV news reporters or/and presenters’ career planning in Taiwan as reference for TV news managers, news reporters and presenters and students who seek for this kind of job in addition to getting a picture of this issue. The research approach employs quality research mode through depth interviews and literature reviews to collect related information for analysis and the making of conclusion. There are 11 interviewees from purposive sampling. Those interviewees are categorized into two groups. One is literature reporters, and the other is news cameraman. The selected criteria include 5 or more years of working periods after 1993, the year of TV media opening policy and with different backgrounds in order to for the interviews covering more diverse perspectives for the research result more meaningful.
In this research, we find that most of the literature reporters as well as news cameraman are voluntarily to enter into this job market. Those are with non-broadcasting backgrounds can also play well as those with broadcasting backgrounds. It appears to be more important to learn from practice. Individual personality is crucial for this job’s performance. The influences to individual career planning of having TV news reporter’s experience include having more opportunities to observe life of diversity, sentimental stability and decision making instantly. The senior reporters have more depth sentiment to TV station or channel, while the young reporters think it just a working place. The main difficulties of occupational adjustment and balance include ‘political party intervening’ and ‘news sources management’. Individual insistence of staying often comes with individual interest. The main reasons of job changing are to pursue for better position, wages and stage of playing. From perspective of the influence by news surrounding, the quality of news becoming worse is most concerned. Society changing also influences the development of planning of TV news reporters. In addition, this research discovers that most TV new reporters do not plan for their career development. However, it is although not clear for their career planning for future, they have premiere thinking more or less. In this research, we also see that it is different for the literature reporters and news cameraman on the issue of their career planning. Their careers appear to be more diverse development for those literature reporters. However, it appears to be confined in career development for the news cameraman. In general, the life-spanning of TV news reporters is not long. Thus, TV news reporters might have better plan their career for future, make their career clearer, and know their aims in the TV news occupation fields for making themselves step on their goals more smoothly.
