Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 資訊管理研究所 === 91 === With the Human Genome Project finished this year, more and more diseases have been identified to be genetically related. A genetic disease may be initiated by activation of one gene that eventually results in the changes of activities in multiple genes within a related group. However, because of the complexity of the human body, gene-gene interactions and genomic mechanisms of most genetic diseases are difficult to study and remain unclear. Bioinformatics, one of information techniques, has been used for analyzing and solving the biological and medical problems. In this study, I attempted to develop a computer simulation system to help medical doctors and genetic researchers in studying complex genetic diseases such as cancer. In this system using recurrent artificial neural network, representation and computation were based on a model of qualitative gene regulation. Using this system, medical doctors and genetic researchers can change as wish the activation status of each gene within a related group and follow up the consequent changes, in order to elucidate genetic mechanisms of this disease, and hopefully, to identify the best timing for drug therapy. This system may help doctors and researchers not only observing the changes in gene activation but also identifying the timing for drug therapy.
