Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 資訊工程學研究所 === 91 === In recent years, wireless LAN has become the fastest development in electronic communication, not only in commercial applications but also governmental and in academics. The military is no exception. Communication devices using wireless LAN have been designed slimmer, lighter and smaller than ever. Since they are easy to carry, they are perfectly suitable for regional military operations. For example, they facilitate a platoon’s regional defense.
Currently the most popular product on the market is based on the 802.11b Agreement. There are two different modes in 802.11 network:
Infrastructure wireless LAN
Ad-hoc wireless LAN
The user must choose the network first to make sure one of the above modes will work. My thesis is based on using prepaid wireless LAN cards, available in most shops throughout Taiwan. Then setup the card to the Linux system and use the Linux free driver to make the adjustment to eventually suit the platoon’s operation. I implement a wireless LAN to be able to auto-switch the mode according to different circumstances, like time difference, change of events or platoon size. This is a very powerful tool to assist the commander in completing his assignment.
