It is necessary to develop a reliable and stable chatter detecting and suppressing system to enhance the machining performance. In this study, four sub-systems are developed: internet remote control system, signal collecting and processing system, chatter detecting system, and chatter suppression system. Signal collecting system was developed with Labview software to on-line collect the cutting forces and the vibration displacement. Adopting Sliding Mode control theory with system identification, a hyper plane was built to monitoring the occurrence of chatter during machining process. When the chatter is detected, the suppression will increase spindle speed and reduce the chip load to stabilize the cutting dynamics. The system will automatically generate input signal for spindle motor through SC-2345 dynamic signal processing card to dissipate the cutting energy to suppress the chatter. Finally, the developed sub-systems were integrated as one system, and an internet remote monitoring system that can remote monitoring the machining process through the web camera and detected signals was also developed. Several cutting experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the integrated system.
