Of the advances, the rapid development of the World Wide Web (WWW) significantly challenges the relationship between the media and the audience. While improving the efficiency in document exchange among organizations, the technology in news industry, nowadays, accommodates a wide variety of applications. One such example is the Extensible Markup Language (XML), which consists of electronic publication, news content syndication, and the definition of news text format. This research is to build a news syndication system based on Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and XML standard by using the University News as a case. The system allows the University News automatically exchange and publish information with its cooperated websites. Also, with the analysis and development of the system, this research explores the RSS mechanisms and applications in news syndication and subscription. At the phase of development, this research, based on the work flow of documents generation of the University News, designed the RSS-oriented data structure for news documents, and generated the RSS-Feed module through Uonline (The University News website) and the application of the RSS-Rreader/Aggregator modules on Internet-based news can be published worldwide by the links on Uonline. The ability of RSS to syndicate news content among websites provides users with a higher efficiency in searching for the latest information. Finally, RSS is not only suitable for this case, but also for serving as the exchange mechanisms of enterprises and personal integrated systems. More importantly, because RSS is a standard document of XML, its flexibility can be applied to a website as well as a single system.
