The aim of this dissertation is to distinguish from professionalisation and institutionalisation of social work, as I consider that there is a certain extent contradiction involved in the process of social work professionalisation. When social work became a part of government system, a complex network also has been brought out that includes professional groups, knowledge, discourse, power, policy as well as nation. Particularly, I believe that power relationship is the core of the network. Thus, the research field of my dissertation are two texts that talked about the modes of social work in different ways. I was going to find out the unstable power and unfixed strategies of the actors when they were in interaction and the copulation process by analysing these two texts. In order to explore the possible way to clear up the contradiction, I was attempted to present some power issues that were relative to social work profession.
According to my research results, there are some important points to provide readers to have much deeper thinking:
1. The issue that social work has been conducted into government system is very relative to disciplines. That is a process of training and internalisation. It is a process of strictly monitoring, reviewing and self-controlling as well.
2. Professionalisation is an endless pursuing cycle. The current mode will exist until the establishment of new mode, and the one part of the current mode is that social work is under the government system.
3. The process of professionalisation and institutionalisation is a well-arranged game that is a dominant way from top to down to decide the look of social work professionalism. The look of social work professionalism also excludes other related professional fields.
4. The main body of power inducts all persons into its umbrella. Under this umbrella, position is the major determinant. If a person does not get a position, then he/ she has to find a place for him/herself to have a room for discoursing.
5. The contradiction in professionalisation and institutionalisation could have different appearances. The key point of professionalisation is how social work builds its own existence subject.
Besides the social work professional issue, I also pointed out another important issue for human being at the end of my dissertation. When the subject has been shaped up by analysis system, then it could not be explained by single framework. It should be regarded as a competition in knowledge field by power relationship. I also talked about the concept of subject knowledge in my conclusion. I believed that theory and knowledge only could be seen as references to subject, as there would have much instability under a society, organisation, system, group and life order. The produce of subject knowledge depends on that if subject can notice or choose to have self-examination of the value of personal negligence and automatic thinking. Thereafter, a new framework can be created to reinterpret and rebuild social substance. It also means that subject can build its own existence subject.
