Description
Summary:碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 財務金融系碩士班 === 93 === Up to 2005, there are 14 financial holding companies in Taiwan since the deregulation for establishment in 2001. However, too many financial holding companies may cause the problem of over competition for the markets. Therefore, the government finally urges the markets to reduce the number of financial holding companies in Taiwan. This study employs the Data Envelope Analysis (DEA) method to evaluate the operation efficiency for the financial holding companies from 1999 to 2004 in Taiwan, including banks, life insurance, property insurance and finance companies. Results show that the efficiency for banking industries significantly increased after the integration of branch offices. Further, the efficiency of old banks is superior to new banks, and the efficiency of big banks is better than small banks. Thirdly, the efficiency for both the life and property insurance companies does not significantly increase after the reformation. Finally, the efficiency of the finance companies significantly decreased after the reformation.
