Therefore, there are diverse objects for collecting and the activity of collecting becomes more personalized. Pearce (1999) points out that the process of collecting is the process of meaning-making, which becomes personal statement projecting one’s self-image and views of the world. Grounded on the poetics of collecting by Pearce, this research focuses on the relationship between collecting and collector, and the meanings of collections to collectors. Applying qualitative methodology, this research investigates the collections, their collecting processes and meanings of five postgraduate students of Graduate Institute of Visual Arts Education at National Hualien Teacher’s College. As a postgraduate student of visual art education, I’ve found that many of my classmates have been amateur collectors for years. Their collections vary from bottles, tea pots to MacDonald toys. I also found that their collection has delicate connections with their choices of art profession, tastes and life styles. Moreover, it is from their collections that they project their vision and dream world. To them, collections should be either decorative or have value of aesthetics. Their collections, art learning process and aesthetic are dynamically interwoven. In addition, collecting has positive effects on them such as providing pleasure and helping releasing pressure of daily lives. Also collections have temporal and spatial significances documenting their important experiences and project to the future. Lastly, collections express art learners’ individuality and represent their identities. 陳佳利 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 106 zh-TW
