Mel-Jung Tsai Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among demographic variables, reading motivation of elementary school students and school reading environment and home literacy environment. The porpose of this research could be put specifically:1) perceive the status quo of elementary school students’ school reading environment, home literacy environment and reading motivation, 2) Probe into the differential on school reading environment, home literacy environment and reading motivation of elementary school students’ with different backgrounds, 3) explore Predictability to reading motivation based on elementary school students’ school reading environment and home literacy environment, and 4) offer feasible suggestions according to the research result. This research adopts questionnaire method. The research objects are the take center higher graders from the public elementary schools of Kaohsiung city. The total numbers of the students filling in the questionnaire is 1,080 person utilizing the method of cluster sampling to sample among 36 classes from 18 schools out of 3 type the large-scale school, the medium-scale school, the small-scale school. Divides into three kind of types namely large-scale schools the school , the medium schools and the small schools. After keying in the questionnaire data, The obtained data was analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s method, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study includes: 1. Present situation of elementary school students in school reading environment in the whole still belonged to the good condition. 2. Present situation of elementary school students in home literacy environment in the whole still belonged to the good condition. 3. Present situation of elementary school students in reading motivation in the whole it’s the motive intensity is quite high. 4. Elementary school students with various sex and not show vivid differences in school reading environment. 5. Elementary school students with various grader show vivid differences in school reading environment, and also center the grade compares the higher grades is superior. 6. Elementary school students with various school scale show vivid differences in school reading environment, and also small – scale large and middle scale is more superior than. 7. Elementary school students with various sex show vivid differences in home literacy environment and also the female student compares the male student is superior. 8. Elementary school students with various grader and not show vivid differences in home literacy environment . 9. Elementary school students with various school scale and not show vivid differences in home literacy environment. 10. Elementary school students with various sex show vivid differences in reading motivation, and also the female student compares the male student is superior. 11. Elementary school students with various grade show vivid differences in reading motivation, and also the center grade compares the higher grades is superior. 12. Elementary school students with various school scale and not show vivid differences in reading motivation. 13. Elementary school students to reading motivation to have the forecast strength school reading environment and home literacy environment. According to this research main discovery and conclusion, puts forward the proposal to the achievement improves school reading environment, home literacy environment with carries out of readers some suggestions and follow-up study are put forward and further studies in the future.
