The aim of this research is to inquire into the influence of writing performance and writing attitude toward the elementary school students of grade five when teaching is combining reading and writing. Moreover, it is used to understand the difficulty the teachers might encounter and then how to improve teachers’ teaching methods. This research adopts “Action Research” with 33 elementary school students of grade five in researcher’s class. Through observation, interviewing data, students’ documents and teaching notes, the researcher analyzes and infers the main conclusion as follows:
A.In the aspect of writing performance
1. The method of combining reading and writing is helpful for
students in their writing contents which represent their
thinking.
2. Essays that the teacher shears from other materials can
inspire students’ thoughts and rich their writing contents
if the choosing topics are related to their daily lives.
3. Basically speaking, the analysis of text construction for
students contributes their writing organization. But for
most of them, listing outlines before writing is somehow
difficult. Therefore, teachers should appropriately get
involved and give students hints while discussing.
4. The method of combining reading and writing can’t
immediately make students apply the writing skills which
they get from learning. In another word, students don’t
make obviously progress in general rules.
5. While writing, the rhetoric idioms or writing skills that
the teacher provides help students in writing performance.
On the contrary, students can’t inspect or utilize what
they have got in a short time.
6. Excellent co-working pieces that carry on the class
publication give students good opportunities to learn and
emulate good points with one another.
B.In the aspect of writing attitude
1. The method of combining reading and writing contributes
students’ writing performance, but it doesn’t have an
obvious promotion on their writing motivation.
2. When the teacher applies the method of combining reading
and writing, it doesn’t obviously arouse students’
interests in cooperation. However, the number of being fond
of group working increases.
3. The method of combining reading and writing doesn’t change
students much on self-reflection while they are writing.
According to the above points, the researcher not only induces the result but also raises the conclusion and suggestion that could regard as the reference for teachers to apply and study.
