Eight participants who were over 55 years old and participated in community activity group more than one year were included in this study by theoretical sampling procedure. In-depth face-to face interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Those data were analyzed by ground theory method. The results revealed the model of community participation process of the elderly. Three categories were emerged in this model: fields selection, live up to meanings of life, relevant factors. The model began at “fields selection”. Firstly, participants received the information of community activities. After, they considered their past experiences to choose suitable activities to join in. When participants decided to join in community participation, they “lived up to meanings of life”.They were sustained by their “meanings of life”. Their “inner power” evoked them to participate in community highly. The inner power influenced their “power performance”. In the event, participants “accumulate their weight of life”because of the interaction between “inner power” and “power performance”. In this process, participants could live up to meanings of life. Therefore, participants made their life under controlled, so that they were empowered. Whether the participants could persist their community participation is concerned with “relevant factors”. Relevant factors consisted of “personal factors” and “outer factors”.Those might assist or impede the community participation process of the elderly. The findings can provide important information to promote the life purpose of elderly. Yeh, Ming-Lee 葉明理 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 142 zh-TW
