Due to the country’s economic boom, the cost of the land in the urban and suburban areas has skyrocketed. Thus, the design of the buildings has failed to meet specific needs of individuals, and has become a cookie-cutter building solution instead. Whether the original buyer acquires the property, or there is a transfer of property to a new owner, there is a high demand to remodel and redesign that property. This increases the price of ownership for the average buyer and it disrupts the market relationship between the builder and the buyer. A better analysis of client preferences in certain areas will greatly improve this market relationship and decrease the costs of ownership for the homebuyers. This paper attempts to conduct an empirical analysis of the different design plans covering these stages: the original builder design plan, showroom model plan and the final interior design plan preferred by the home purchaser. The analysis will observe whether there is a pattern of design that the homebuyers prefer in certain areas that builders in the future may rely on. This will lead to significant cuts in remodeling costs on the part of the homebuyer. For ease of research, I have selected a random location in the south of Taiwan.
