How to effectively use knowledge has become a powerful weapon for uplifting the competitiveness among businesses. Knowledge management is an important issue, and Local Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) has always had significant contributions to the development of economy in Taiwan. Therefore, this study puts emphasis on the factors affecting the Local Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Adoption and Expect Benefits of Knowledge Management Systems from information technology point of view.   This study is based on Rogers’s Model of Diffusion of Innovations. The research collects 26 variables which affects SMEs’ adopting Knowledge Management Systems. The subjects are 299 SMEs which are all counseled by Economic Affairs Small and Medium Enterprise Administration. The researcher accepted 83 questionnaires returned. The result showed that the rate of local SMEs’ implementing Knowledge Management Systems is quite low, only about 12%. Most building sections are Knowledge-intensive industries or have built the core information system. Through factor analysis, the study has selected out 22 variables of SMEs’ adopting Knowledge Management Systems. They are divided into four respects, including “Strategy and Information,” “System and Resource,” ”People and Organization,” and “SMEs’ Characteristics.” The result indicates that these factors are significantly influencing SMEs’ adoption of the system.
