The study is a two-group quasi- experimental design. Sixty-eight adolescent patients aged 10-18 years were selected from a children’s neurological outpatient clinics of a medical center located in the north of Taiwan. Thirty four patients were in an experimental group with individual consultation intervention and the others were in the control group. Structured interview method was employed in the data collection. Uusal nursing care was delivered to both groups, while only the experimental group had additional individual consultation intervention. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS for Windows. Descriptive statistics (Percent, Mean, Standard deviation) and inference statistics (Paired t-test, Independent t-test, Chi-square test) were used to compare the differences between these two groups. The results revealed that there was no statistically significant differences in quality of life and social support perceived by patients between intervention and control group. However, patients at intervention group perceived more information social support at post test. Health care provider was the major resources for informational support. Although the findings of this study didn’t show statistically significant improvement of quality of life among adolescents with epilepsy at intervention group, this study demonstrates that the individual consultation surely increase the informational social support provided by medical workers for adolescent with epilepsy. Therefore, the individual consultation should be implemented in clinical settings to improve the quality of life and social support for epilepsy adolescents.
