碩士 === 中臺科技大學 === 醫護管理研究所 === 94 === ABSTRACT The main aim of this research is to explore the needs of discharge planning for primary caregiver among clients with mental illness. The participants were being selected using a purpose sampling method. The samples are the primary caregivers of inpatients who have been staid in psychiatric unit in the medical center in Taichung. These primary caregivers were be investigated by a structure questionnaire “The needs of discharge planning for primary caregiver among clients with mental illness”. Ninety-one questionnaires were received. Window for SPSS 10.0 was carrying on statisticsing the analysis. The data was analyzed with the methods of descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The findings showed the caregiver most needs specialized to provide before the service five items in order respectively is: "lets me know the progress and the recover degree of the mental illness in future ", "understanding the diagnosis and the cause factor of mental illness ", "understanding the social welfare of clients with mental illness"," taught me how to recognize the illness’s sign and symptom before relapse", and " understanding the conditions of clients with personality, mood, and intelligence ". The onset and the time of the mental illness are significantly difference on the information need (p = .005, p <. 05), and material need (p=. 042, <. 05), below for 1 year sickness than to above for 5 years need more information service provision, 2-4 year sickness than above for 5 years need more material service provision. There was significant difference on material need (p =. 05, p<. 05); emotional need (p = .021, p< .05) while caregiver knew has the discharge planning. This research suggested the nursing staff has to assess the discharge planning needs when starts to contact with the caregiver and client with mental illness , and carries on the needs to appraise, and order of according to the needs, provides suitableness nursing service, then to promote high nursing quality.
