The first edition was available in 1999, then the modified editions were published respectively in 2001, 2003 and 2005. The manuals in 1999 and 2001 had 7 evaluation indexes, and there were 9 in 2003 and 2005.The manuals of four editions all had respective meanings reflecting the needs and evolution of knowledge and concepts at that time. Most significantly, 2003 edition established the “Green Building Evaluation System - EEWH” that include four important factors of Ecology (E), Energy saving (E), Waste reduction (W) and Health (H). 2005 edition brought up the「Five-stage Evaluation System」,adoption of the active promotion approach rather than the passive encouragement in the past. The study focuced on the greening evaluation index analyses for the four editions of “Explanation and Evaluation Manual for Green Buildings” with following purposes: (1)Compare the evaluation methods that include the differences, influences and development of concepts for greening evaluation index among these four editions and brought up the suggestions. (2)Conduct the variance analyses with data of greening index from 10 elementary schools of Chungliao township. (3)Compare the differences with data of greening index between two different times and areas, include data of greening index from 36 junior high schools and elementary schools of Hsinchu city(2002)and 10 elementary schools of Chungliao township(2006), immediately brought up the suggestions to make green in schools. According to the results of the analyses and comparisions for greening evaluation index among these four editions, the suggestions were: (1)The plants with insufficient depth of covered soil should be downgraded to count in. (2)The classification for big or small trees should refer to plant taxonomy. (3)The sample places and tree species should be increased to show the true CO2 fixation quality in the parents. (4)The determining rules should be stipulated for the elder trees whose ages are unknown and branches are appearing below a meter height. The results of statistical analyses for data from Chungliao township showed that there was no differences among four editions. Because of the junior high schools and elementary schools of Hsinchu city are elder and located at city area, the certificated rate of greening indexes was low.It was the evidence that there was no correlations between greening guality and on-site superficial area but plant species. The suggestions for the planting designs are as follow: (1)Adopt multi-story planting, three-dimensional green, ecological ponds and butterfly-attracted, bird- attracted native plants. (2)Keep elder trees and ecological multi-story plantings and let plants invade naturally. (3)Don’t make a unsuitable trim and have a spray with insecticides. (4)Choose plants with appropriate tree-form and take account of plant photokinesis. The results showed that the formulas and contents for greening indexes were changed. However, statistical analyses for data from Chungliao township showed that there was no differences among four editions. At the same time, the four editions enlarged the application range and had respective meanings reflecting the needs and evolution of knowledge and concepts at that time. On the whole, these changes showed that the concepts of green designs was improving gradually.
