Athletic Class Students in Taipei Junior High School

Abstract
The purpose of present study was to (a) identify the current status of academic pressure and school adaptation among athletic class students in Taipei public and private junior high schools: (b) compare the differences among selected demographic variables among athletic class students in Taipei public and private junior high schools; (c) examine the relationship between academic pressure and school adaptation among athletic class students in Taipei public and private junior high schools. The questionnaire utilized for the data collection including (a) demographic sheet; (b) student academic pressure scale; and (c) school adaptation scale.
The sample was 642 athletic class students selected from purposeful sampling in Taipei area. From the survey returned, 554 were coded. The response rate was 86.3%. Descriptive statistics, independent sample T-test, one way ANOVA, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation were computed for data analysis.
The results indicated that (a) the status of academic pressure and school adaptation among athletic class students located on middle level; (b) academic pressure had significant difference on gender, grade, parenting style, teacher discipline, academic achievement and boarder; (c) school adaptation had significant difference on grade, teacher discipline, academic achievement, after school program, and boarder; (d) negative significant relationship was found between academic pressure and school adaptation; (e) teacher pressure of academic pressure can predict school adaptation effectively.
