However, the relationship between gasoline station and the surrounded communities is worthy of research and is an important environmental issue. With the gasoline station opening for private despoliation, many gasoline stations settle close to communities or to the buildings where people live. High environmental problems occur due to gasoline station such as leakage from gasoline pipes and oil tanks, which results in the polluted soil, groundwater and air. Consequently, these pollutants may influence people health, which is the topic of this research. The target samples were selected from FonYuan city. Data include people structures, economic conditions, death causes, and other information from 1996 to 2005. We use GIS 9.1 software to analyze the distribution of death people (induced by cancers) and gasoline stations. The Excel software was applied to create statistics charts to understand the correlation among people growth trend, variance of people structure, death people number (by cancers) etc. We utilize SPSS 12.0 software to evaluate the correlation among death causes, inhabit time, gender, living area, and season, the difference about gasoline station settle, the relationship between population density of cancer death and distance of gasoline stations. Results indicate that there is no significant correlation among cancer death, population distribution, gender, living area and seasons. It is noticed that population density of cancer death increases with decreasing the distance of gasoline station. This seems to imply high cancer risk for people living near gas stations. However, this also might be attributed that most gasoline stations were located in the communities with high population density. Besides, the different kinds of cancered death cannot significantly relate to the gasoline’s toxicity. There needs more investigations and discusses in details to find out the scientific proofs and proper explanations. Jih-Hsing Chang 章日行 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 112 zh-TW
