In order to satisfy the public’s expectations, the traditional forest recreation area requires more creative management styles. Therefore, continuing on developing natural forest recreation area is an important task. The special landscape and beautiful views are the major factors to attract tourists to the forest recreation areas. The successful appeal of landscape for tourism is very difficult to be quantified as each individual has a different point of view. The purpose of this research is to understand what sort of landscape is tourists’ favorite by reasonable assessments statistically. Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area (ANFRA) was built in 1994 by the Forestry Bureau and is most famous for its maple leaves. The “four-season-view” includes cherry blossoms of spring, waterfall of summer, moon of autumn and maple leaves of winter. This analysis adopts a method of conducting random questionnaires to survey tourists’ background, social experience, traveling motives, and satisfaction of the surrounding landscape to understand what sort of landscape and views are preferred and their revisiting intention. Hopefully, the outcome of this analysis can be used as the references of management in the future. Analysis results indicate that single female whose age ranging between 20 and 29 years old, living in northern Taiwan and company clerks are the major tourism group on visiting natural forest recreation area. In particular, a big portion of them like visiting ANFRA with their family twice or three times a year, obtain tourism information from their friends and relatives, stay between 2 and 4 hours each time and arrive by their own vehicles. Formosan sweet gum and green maple are the key features of landscape in ANFRA. In terms of its recreational facilities, the cherry blossom garden and the maple leaf area are generally preferred by tourists. In addition, the maintenance and safety of recreational facilities for the whole family traveling together are vital factors for tourists’ satisfaction. Factor analysis extracted three preference levels of landscape, they can be divided into the landscape factor of surrounding natural plants, the waterfalls landform and ornithology and the human history and zoology. This report will utilize K-means’s research method to analyze and divide the questionnaires into three major groups of which are 134, 119 and 122 people respectively. The first group possessed an enjoyment of the natural landscape environment; the second group preferred the human history and zoology; while the third group enjoyed the landscape of waterfalls landform and ornithology.
