The Treatment Effect of Human Serum Albumin and Hetastarch on the Canine Hypoalbuminemia

碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 獸醫學系所 === 95 === Aim of this study is to examine the effects of human serum albumin ( HSA ) on hypoalbuminemic dogs. Male dachshunds with 4 to 8 kgs body weight were induced as a hepatic dysfunction by carbon tetrachloride ( CCl4 ). Dogs with a 2 mg/dl less of serum albumin conce...

Male dachshunds with 4 to 8 kgs body weight were induced as a hepatic dysfunction by carbon tetrachloride ( CCl4 ). Dogs with a 2 mg/dl less of serum albumin concentration were considered as a hypoalbuminemia. ClC4 challenged dogs with hypoalbuminemia were intravenously infused with either 20% HSA ( 5ml/kg ) or 6% Hetastarch ( HES ) ( 20ml/kg ) for 8 hours. Blood biochemistry, cell counting, and plasma albumin were determined after treatment. Results showed that HSA infusion intravenous can significantly increase the plasma albumin at 4-hour, and this increasing could be persistent for 72 hours at least. Analysis on the blood cells or biochemistry showed that neither HSA nor HES treatment has significant variation on all dogs. In conclusion, our study suggests that HSA could significantly increase the plasma albumin levels on hypoalbuminemic dogs without any complications in the time or after of treatments.
