Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 社會科教育學系碩士班 === 95 === Located at Lu-Erh-Men Islet, Orthodox Lu-Erh-Men Sheng Mu Miao was historical. As the gate of Taiwan, it became the critical point of Taichiang. Before the Republican period, business prospered and religious followers crowded the temples. Sheng Mu Miao was the most popular temple in Taiwan. Since the Republican period, well organized planning, Sheng Mu Miao underwent stages of reconstruction, new construction, and expansion, and became the largest temple in the Southeast Asia. It has attracted visitors from home and abroad, and became an important religious attraction in Taiwan. This study surveyed visitors and religious followers attending the religious activities of Orthodox Lu-Erh-Men Sheng Mu Miao, and businesses and residents in its surrounding areas, in order to understand their motives and level of satisfaction, and probed into its positive and negative effects. The results were analyzed with percentage, and the conclusions are as follow: 1) The main motive for religious followers o visit Orthodox Lu-Erh-Men Sheng Mu Miao is for praying, which proves its popularity and religious power, and secondly to relieve stress and experience the religious atmosphere. 2) The most satisfactory items visitors at Orthodox Lu-Erh-Men Sheng Mu Miao are convenient parking, preservation and maintenance of historic monuments, and temple art and culture. Since the three items are of equal weight, maintenance of historic monuments and temple art and culture are deduced to be the most satisfactory items to visitors, and the convenient parking meets visitors’ needs. It shows that Sheng Mu Miao has exerted serious efforts to the preservation and maintenance of historic monuments to gain visitors’ praise and satisfaction. Temple art and culture are also affirmed by visitors. 3) There are positive and negative effects of its religious tourism. In terms of economy, tourism brings business prosperity and local development. In terms of natural environment, since it was the landing area of Cheng Cheng-gong, it has attracted attention from the government and received more protection as a local attraction. However, streams of visitors and cars have led to problems of air pollution and trash. In terms of social culture, it has enhanced the local consciousness, expanded the vision of local residents, and brought more recreational facilities to the area.
