Several domestic machine tool manufacturers design linear motors machine tool, and the technology is getting well-developed. To assure that the machine tool reaches the requirements of precision and stability; however, manufacturers still have to overcome the problems of the thermal deformations due to the friction and the circuits heating. With the manufacturer-provided linear motor gantry system, the study measures the average currents and heating power of the linear motor with different setting experimental parameters. Then, taking the calculated results as thermal loading, the study simulates the temperature variations and thermal deformations of the system components influenced by heating source with the FEA software ANSYS. By comparing the results of simulations and experiments, the study analyzes the degree of the temperature variations which result from heat dissipation of linear motors, and then provides the reformation method and correct the precision lost of the linear motor gantry system due to the thermal deformations.
