Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 教育研究所 === 96 === Abstract This thesis, by means of action research, aims to explore the grade 3 character education curriculum, and integrates the core ethical values such as caring and respect for self and others into the learning areas. It focuses on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project in terms of different learning materials and activities. The main purposes of this action research are as follows: 1. To explore the feasibility of a third grade character education and analyze the problems encountered. 2. To research and design the appropriate project for the grade 3 character education curriculum. 3. To monitor and analyze the implementation of the project. 4. To evaluate the results of the project in terms of different learning materials and activities. The main findings of this research are as follows: 1. The analysis result demonstrates that this grade 3 class is suitable for integrating respect and caring as the core ethical value into character education. 2. The key steps in designing a curriculum to promote core ethical value include identifying the core ethical values, analyzing the purposes, examining the subject content, instructional methods and learning tasks, and designing authentic assessment. 3. The better steps in implementing character education are to adopt the 6E teaching model: example, explanation, exhortation, environment, experience and expectation. 4. Character education, students-based and teachers-directed, contributes to promote the core ethical valves such as respect and caring. Key words: character education, action research, respect, caring
