With the evolution through the ages and the promotion of the scripture teaching, “San Zi Jing” has transformed from an enlightenment education teaching material to a basic scripture teaching material, and its meaning to education has evolved as well. The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of “San Zi Jing” in education from its enlightenment origin, content, specialties, and influences and effects on elementary students. It also probes into and presents the connotation of the enlightenment education of “San Zi Jing” and its educational effects with a more comprehensive point of view to compensate the inadequacy of San Zi Jing in the education related studies. Except for the introduction and conclusion, the paper is arranged by the contention correlation. Chapter 2 investigates the relationship between the enlightenment education and “San Zi Jing”. First, we will explain the meaning of the enlightenment education and the status of enlightenment education, and look into the evolution of the enlightenment education teaching materials and their features. Then, we will introduce the origin of “San Zi Jing” and finally deduce the relationship of the enlightenment education and “San Zi Jing” in this study. Chapter 3 discusses the two aspects of the forms of “San Zi Jing”, which are the rhyming and the expression. Chapter 4 examines the content from the two aspects, which are content segmentation and literacy teaching, to discuss the features of the content. This study is based on “San Zi Jing”. First, this study looks into the relationship between “San Zi Jing” and the enlightenment education from the view of enlightenment education, and analyzed the features of its rhyming and expression. The abovementioned is very helpful in the aspect of building up vocabulary. Then the relationship between the content segmentation and literacy teaching of elementary school junior graders is analyzed. Finally, the role and position of this traditional Chinese enlightenment education material, “San Zi Jing”, in the modern education is investigated. Chapter 5 probes into the relationship between “San Zi Jing” and elementary students from the three aspects, which are the Confucian ideology, social and cultural meaning, and view of educational point, to discuss and confirm the position of “San Zi Jing” in the elementary education. In the end, we will review possible influences of “San Zi Jing” on elementary school junior graders and if “San Zi Jing” is practical to deal with the present social problems. The meaning between the studies of “San Zi Jing” and other related studies, and their possible contribution to the entire academics are also discussed. It is certain that “San Zi Jing” can be used as a supplementary teaching material for elementary school junior graders with its multitude of words and six rhetoric expressions which can improve students’ ability in writing. In the future, “San Zi Jing” has to follow the trend, eliminate the flaws and keep the strength, and employ the form of multi-media so that it could be widely utilized.
