These incorporate the major events, popular culture and customs of the time, as well as embody the people’s sentiment and attitudes toward life . These works reflect the vitality of the period in which they were written. Humor literature of Ming and Qing dynasty creates vivid and colorful images that mirror real life and human nature. The writers showed great appreciation of beauty and emotions by boldly, freely and directly incorporating art into their characters. Succinct and vivid images of officials and scholars are characteristics in humor literature of Ming and Qing dynasty. The authors’ serious consideration toward the reality of society and people’s destiny not only presented deep criticism , but also shed light on human nature and the defects of society. The aim of this study is to analyze the images of officials and scholars from humor literature of Ming and Qing dynasty and the authors’ backgrounds as well. This analysis forms a starting point for a discussion of related questions.
