In order to investigate the structure of number and quantity concepts, the sample include 719 students from second graders of elementary schools by using self-designed number and quantity concepts test. Secondly, the researcher analyzed examinees’ response patterns through PIRS software to get graphical structure of concept. Finally, the researcher classified examinees into groups by using fuzzy clustering, and analyzed the structures of each group based on the classification by PIRS. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Examinees of different clusters own varied PIRS diagrams 2. Analyzing examinees’ number and quantity response patterns, “Understanding of the area and to make a direct comparison” is the highest pass rate concept. 3. According to PIRS diagrams, the links among concepts could be as references for group teaching and remedial instruction. The findings of this study should be helpful for understanding the learning process of number and quantity and could be as references for cognitive diagnosis, design of curriculum and remedial instruction. Finally, some recommendations and suggestions for future research are provided. Lin,Yuan-Horng Shu,Tian-Wei 林原宏 許天維 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 76 zh-TW
