Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 食品科學系 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of the Spirulina platensis on blood glucose and lipid metabolism in type 2 diabetic rats. In this study, Wistar rats were separated into five groups as follows: (a) healthy rats fed on normal diet group (NA), (b) healthy rats fed on S. platensis diet group (NB), (c) type 2 diabetic rats fed on normal diet group (MA), (d) type 2 diabetic rats fed on S. platensis diet group (MB) and (e) type 2 diabetic rats fed on glibenclamide diet group (MC). This experiment carried out for 8 weeks. All rats were fed the experimental diet and drinking water ad libitum for 8 weeks. In the OGTT test of the 7th week, fasting blood glucose concentration of the MA group was 163.22 mg/dL, which was higher than others. The MB group could be below 200 mg/dL which compared with MC group without significantly after 120 minutes of the test at the 7th week. The 8th week, rats were sacrificed. Weights of NA, MA and MC groups were heavier than NB and MB groups. Values of triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) in plasma and liver and glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in plasma of MB group were lower than that values of MA group, but values of TG and TC in faeces of MB group were higher than that values of MA group, and therefore spirulina might decrease lipid content and prevent from forming fatty liver in the rat. After sacrificing, the blood glucose concentration of five groups were as follow: MA (216.28 mg/dL) ≧MB (196.81 mg/dL) ≧NA (187.49 mg/dL) >MC (173.04 mg/dL) >NB (170.74 mg/dL). The plasma insulin concentration of MA (2.03 μg/L) groups was the lowest than other groups. Therefore, the blood glucose concentration decreased as plasma insulin increased. And spirulina might promot β-cell of pancreas to secrete more insulin. Acorrding to these results, S. platensis might have regulation ability of blood glucose and lipid concentration in type 2 diabetic rats.
