Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 體育學系碩士班 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to examine the main effects and interaction of sociometric status, perceived athletic competence, and academic achievement in predicting loneliness in elementary school children. Participants in this study consisted of 480 elementary students from 7 Taipei municipal elementary schools, 254 boys (average age=10.91 years, SD=0.78) and 226 girls (average age=10.98 years, SD=0.76) ranging from grades 4th to grades 6th. Children completed a questionnaire assessing sociometric status, perceived athletic competence, and loneliness. Academic achievement was based on the grades of participants on academic year 97, the first semester. Data retrieved from this research were analyzed using t-test, Pearson’s correlation analyses, and multiple-regression analyses. The results were as follows: 1. Sociometric status (β = -.59, p < .05) and self-rated athletic ability (β = -.16, p < .05) were predicted by loneliness in boys, whereas academic achievement (β = -.23, p < .05) was predictor of loneliness in girls. 2. There were not interactions among sociometric status, perceived athletic competence, and academic achievement in predicting loneliness. Results are discussed and suggestions to practical application and future research are also proposed.
