Kinmen County didn’t establish its autonomous government until late in 1915. At the Ming-Zheng period, Zheng Chenggong regarded Kinmen as a base area for “Fan qing fu ming”(Anti-Qing Back to Ming); at the Nationalist-Communist Civil War period, Kinmen became an “Anti-Communist Outsentry”. Lonely suspended in the sea, near the continent, the location of Kinmen turned this island into a war tool. While the Battlefield Administration Government were implemented in 1956, the residents in Kinmen had to cooperate with the training in battlefield and lived in chilly fear under strict military control. In 1958, 823 Artillery Battle happened, residents in Kinmen took on tasks such as supply, beaching, medcine, went out and in between the artillery fire and suffered heavy casualties. They earned respect from the public after this battle. Kinmen was modeled into a fighting island, brave and resolute, but the human nature character of Kinmen was hidden beneath all these images. People knew Kinmen as “battlefield” for a long time, and didn’t have the chance to discover other aspects of Kinmen. In 1980s, the Battlefield Administration Affairs in Kinmen was dismissed, this island was opened up to tourism, its County magistrate can be elected directly, and its public affairs finally got on the right track. Meanwhile, the Nativism was flaming. Kinmen was excluded from Nativism before even being recognized by external world. Due to the exclusiveness of Nativism, the process of self-recognition in Kinmen encountered many obstacles, therefore Kinmen residents felt like homeless, they began to criticize central government for ignoring the contribution which Kinmen devoted to Taiwan main island during war period. All these arguments showed that Kinmen hoped to earn the recognition of Taiwan. In modern stage, residents in Kinmen are trying to self-orientate and find themselves, continue the territory zone delimited by Lin kun-huang and his son Lin hao, making the local characteristic, step out its next step from the trace of the war. The first chapter of this research is “Introduction”, which briefly described the motive of this study, material and restriction of this study, defined the range of this study, and introduced the study methods and steps. The second chapter tried to explain the destiny of Kinmen island, generalize two characters from its geographic environment: “Attach” and “Block”. In this chapter, there is a special section focusing on how the Battlefield Administration Affair in Kinmen influenced Kinmen residents’ modern life and their modern literature development. The third chapter studied the development of Kinmen Modern literature, demarcated it into four sections: “Country Literature”, “Battlefield Legend”, “Modern Literature”, “Kinmen Nativism”; explained four types of literature, and compare their common characters and differences with Taiwan modern literature, discussed each character of every types. The fourth chapter used two sections: “Local Author” and “Author Moved to Taiwan”, introduced representative Kinmen authors in modern literature. The fifth chapter criticized the deficiency of each type and discussed the disadvantageous and advantageous factors while developing Kinmen literature. The sixth chapter concluded the character of Kinmen literature according to this essay, brought up the reason why Kinmen literature was being excluded, what's its benefit and flaw, pointed out the possible direction for future effort.
