The soldiers usually did not engage in war, and they were old and weak. The word “Xiang-Jun”, however, is a general term. In this thesis this work force can be divided into two kinds. One of them is the “professional Yi-Bing”, and the other is “hard-working Xiang-Bing”. They were treated in the Dynastic History of the Song as the same thing. But actually they were different. The soldiers in Xiang-Jun could be drafted into the Jin-jun (Central Army). The Shui-jun (Water Force ) in the south, also belonged to Xiang-jun, were employed to keep public security. This kind of situation is different from the traditional concept that Xiang-Jun could not be used for fighting. This research studies the organizations of the Xiang-Jun in the Treatise on War (Bing- zhi) of the Dynastic History, attempting to find out the real contents of the system and to achieve a better understanding of the Xiang-Jun system Jing-Shen Tao 陶晉生 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 184 zh-TW
