Summary:碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 應用英語系 === 97 === The main purpose of this study was to design a remedial instruction course to help the disadvantaged students learn English better. The participants of this study were six fifth graders who were selected from an elementary school in Tainan County. Starting from May 2007, this study lasted for six months, with two forty-minute classes per time. The process incorporated sight word learning, nursery rhyme singing, and picture book reading. The study was primarily built on an action research study in conjunction with observations, fieldnotes, oral interviews, reflective notes, and questionnaire survey. Moreover, quantitative approach was also used to analyze participants’ performance. After the remedial instruction, the researcher hoped that this study could offer an appropriate remedial instruction for the teachers and educators to practice to help disadvantaged students improve their English ability in elementary school.
