Currently in Taiwan, there are approximately 375,000 people with Malocclusion between ages 20 to 40. Relatively, the number of people getting braces is increasing. Of the increasing number of people, most of the patients are ones that need fixing of the jaw and require orthognathic surgery. In circumstances like these, clinicians often need to understand the patients’ situations in order to observe recovery status. Therefore, an equipment called the mandibular kinesiography is used to record the patient’s jaw movement for future observation. However, when the equipment is simulating movements, it is usually through one on one modeling. Though convenient, clinicians are unable to thoroughly understand the status of the patient’s actual movements. In addition, more and more computers are being used in medical diagnoses, thus we propose a method: using level-set method to extract the skull and jaw from the patient’s primitive images, establish the patient’s actual three-dimensional model, then add the movement record to the three-dimensional model to conduct a three-dimensional movement simulation. This enables the doctor to understand more fully the actual situation of the patient’s motions and enhance medical quality. S. Y. Wan 萬書言 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 64
