This study examined the characteristics of light source type and graphics on the depth perception. Two experiments were manipulated in the study. The first experiment investigated the effects of light source, texture, angle of rotated figure, and figure type (2D vs. 3D) on error in judged distance. The light source was a between-subjects factor; the variables of texture, angle of rotated figures, and figure type were within-subject factors. Analyses showed that texture, angle of rotated figure, and figure type significantly affected error in judged distance; the variables of angle of rotated figure and figure type also significantly affected reaction time. In addition, five two-way interactive effects were found. Interactions of subject’s background × angle of rotated figure, subject’s background × figure type, texture × figure type, angle of rotated figure × figure typeand, and cylinder height × angle of rotated figure significantly affected error in judged distance. The interactive effect of angle of rotated figure and figure type also significantly affected reaction time. The second experiment examined the effects of depth of hole (0.8,1.6,2.4,3.2,4.0 cm), size of hole (a radius of 10,16, 22 cm), angle of rotated 3D graphics (15 °, 30 ° and 45 °), and lighting types (spot light, direction light and point light) on error in perceived depth. The rotation angle, depth of hole, and size of hole were within-subject factors. Results showed that angle of rotated 3D graphics and size of hole were significantly affected the error in perceived depth; angle of rotated 3D graphics significantly affected the error in perceived depth. Two interactive two-way effects on error in perceived depth were found: angle of rotated 3D graphics × light source type, size of hole × light type. Moreover, the interaction of angle of rotated 3D graphics and light source type significantly affected response time. Results have implications for graphics-based design of interfaces, such as for product designers and virtual reality designers. Kuo-Chen Huang 黃國珍 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 139 zh-TW
