Fables are not only a style of writing but also an attitude toward life. They can even be the reveal of a philosophy of life. In western world, fables can be traced back to the Aesop’s fable of the ancient Greece, and in the East, they include the Chinese fables dating back to the Pre-Chin era and the religious, philosophical fables from the ancient civilization country, India. Until now, we can still see many innovative works being created. Because of its interesting and instructive features, fables are quite suitable for being selected for the learning materials in elementary school. Through those active and interesting stories, many practical and useful meanings are being taught. Through these beautiful literatures, students can also experience those precious life experiences and develop respectable characters. This study discussed about the meanings of fables and relationships between other writings. Also, it analyzes the fable materials in the mandarin textbooks of Grade 1-9 Curriculum and compares the character educations being used。The practice of Grade 1-9 Curriculum certainly has a big and innovative effect on education, but the National Academy for educational research has done the work for so many years. Therefore, this study does the comparison between the 82- year Curriculum and the Grade 1-9 Curriculum.
