Unlike conventional classrooms, the previous literature on Post-Occupancy Evaluation shows that the problem of noisy sound interference is one of the main improvement issues of Clustered classrooms. Therefore, this study selected strip type Clustered classrooms interior space as the research object, using acoustic simulation software to explore the impact of background noise on the indoor Speech Intelligibility in the context of original spatial pattern, fixed indoor condition, and simulated teaching setting. Moreover, this study examines that how sound-absorbing material influence the correlation of room acoustics assessment indicators under the different combinations of sound absorption coefficients and locations. It also analyzes the change of measuring points between the different locations in Clustered classrooms. To sum up, this study is aiming at developing a Clustered classrooms strategy in order to improve the indoor sound environment as well as the quality of teaching via reducing interference noise. At the initial stage, this study measured the noise in order to recognize the noise levels and noise sources, and then conducted room acoustics measurements and computer simulation comparison. The results show that Clustered classrooms Indoor noise level of Leq value was between 65 ~ 80 dB (A), and the noise source came from the interior. In the measurement and simulation comparison Reverberation Time (RT) and Sound Pressure Level (SPL) values, it obtained linear regression R² 0.758 and 0.809 respectively, thus to confirm the the validity of the sound field of computer model in this study. The indicators of computer acoustic simulation-based evaluation includes RT, SPL, Clarity (C50), Articulation Loss (ALcons) and Rapid Speech Transmission Index (RASTI). The result of computer simulations show that it reached the good level of RT, reduced next door SPL and improved voice clarity when the background noise was under the control of 40 dB, and used proper sound-absorbing material for the construction of the path of sound transmission, that are-the ceiling and the wall. Based on the above results, it is proved that this model is valid to improve the sound environment of both the former and present design of Clustered classrooms.
