A Study on Empowerment Process of Southeast Asia Female Immigrants Participating in Welfare Service Programs.

碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 社會工作系 === 99 === This study aims to describe the correlation between the process of Southeast Asian women immigrant empowerment and immigration services program. It also describes how new immigrants welfare services program assist new immigrant women to empower and helps understand the empowerment improving and experience of individual side, relationship side, environment side. In this study, we use the qualitative research methods to collect the data by detailed interview. We interview 6 new immigrant women who participated in related new immigrant welfare programs. Among the study, we firstly discover the reasons which urged them to empower and the motives for them participating new immigrant service program. For the individual side, First reason is the gap between marriage expectation and real life. And the greatest reason is the language barrier, and it does also play the greatest promoter of change .Then the reason is the independent personality. The following reason is the child-rearing responsibility, and it does increase the willing to learn and grow. For relationship side is the un-expandable social relationship. For the environment side is the affection of the challenge of different diet and totally strange environment for them. After the experience of participating in the new immigrant services program, it does enhance the self-confidence and self-efficacy, increase the ability the handle complex matters, enhance the ability of children education, improve the communication skills and social network in relationship side. Last at all, after exploring how the new immigrant women demonstrate and use their empowering experience, we found out after participating the related culture diversity advocacy, the new immigrants not only introduce their culture to others, but also have the opportunities to re-understand their own culture. Finally, I do also find out being a volunteer could help others and learn more at the same time.
