This inherits the Chinese martial art spirit and between each inch, the story of Acong and his 40 years as a karate coach unfolded. The research aims at understanding the coaching philosophy of karate training and the story of how a coach started his career in karate. Qualitative research method is adopted in this study. In-depth interviews and literature reviews are taken to present the coach’s life story and to understand the path and process of Acong’s coaching career, ways of working, believe, and attitude. The research discovered that Coach Acong has developed strong body strength in his student life by attending different sports leagues. In admiration of chivalry spirit, Coach Acong entered the world of karate. After years of intensive and concentrated practice, Coach Acong acquired the championship at the District Sports League. After being promoted as the coach of National Karate Team, Coach Acong made discrete training plans, focused on strength training, and improved contestants’ strength with solid technique training. He also focused on mental/spiritual development in order to defeat the great opponents from all over the world. The mission of a coach is to find out the strength of the contestants. With neutral feeling toward competition, a coach helps the contestants to set goals and develop team spirits. A coach’s goal is also to inherit the spirit of “until the inch”, and to teach students in a fun and inspiring way that helps students build confidence. A coach would focu on fundamental practice and teach students to face and accept failures. Coach Acong’s coaching philosophy focuses on moral education, treating people with sincerity, understanding of politeness and shame, developing hard-working spirit, and educating calm, well-mannered karate contestants.
