How to reduce the building heat load and maintain a suitable indoor environment are important issues for energy saving and reducing CO2 emission. In this study, a new heat insulation building material utilizing circulating water for cooling on the rooftop was developed. The thermodynamic property of heat conductivity of the material was experimentally evaluated in this study. Through the energy consumption software of eQUEST, the performance of the new material was numerically simulated. Through the analysis, it is found more than 22% of total electric consumption per year can be saved by installing the new material on 579.6m2 rooftop area of buildings. The performance of the material in comparison with other building materials also was investigated. From the view of efficiency and environmental protection, the developed building material is a suitable to be application in buildings with large rooftop area.
