The population in this study includes the nurses in New Taipei City. We used structured questionnaire “Nurses on the hospice palliative care in cognition and attitude scale” as a research tool. The research results show that nurses’ cognitions and attitudes of the hospice palliative care are positively correlated (r = 0.422, p <0.01). Analysis results: 1. Nurses have high degree of cognition to the hospice palliative care. 2. Nurses have positive attitude towards to the hospice palliative care. 3.The difference of cognition of the hospice palliative care includes education degrees, work experiences, experiences of taking care of the dying relatives or friends, experiences of taking care of the dying patients, participating in hospice program or study. Nurses with higher education degrees, with more work experiences, with experiences of taking care of dying relatives or friends, with experiences of taking care of dying patients, ever participate in hospice programs or studies, have higher cognition to hospice palliative care. 4.The difference of attitude of the hospice palliative care includes education degrees, religions, working seniority, experiences of taking care of the dying relatives or friends, experiences of taking care of the dying patients, participating in hospice program or study. Nurses with higher education degrees, with religions, with experiences of taking care of dying relatives or friends, with experiences of taking care of dying patients, ever participate in life and death courses, ever participate in hospice programs or studies, have more positive attitude to hospice palliative care 5.Nurses have higher cognition to hospice palliative care, also have more positive attitude. Recommendations and conclusions: 1. To promote hospice palliative care and death education into school life education courses. 2.
