Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 財務金融系碩士班 === 100 === We investigate the impact of geography effect on board quality. We hypothesize that firms in the vicinity of a large local potential director pool are more easily to find high quality directors. By examining a sample consisting 710 public listed firms in Taiwan, we find that firms located in counties with high population density or high percentage of college graduated population, in counties with more industry peers, and firms in northern Taiwan are associated with more independent directors and with higher directors’ education qualifications in the board. Also, these firms tend have more directors with academic or professional expertise in business, accounting, law or finance. In addition, we find the effect of local director pool on board quality mainly appears in small firms. In addition, we find the effect of local director pool on board quality mainly appears in small firms and firms with longer distance to train station or high-speed rail station.
